The Zonal Superintendent of CAC Stockwell Zone, Pastor Mike Akin Olaniyi told CAC NEWS that Christ Apostolic Church Stockwell was founded on 8th of May, 1988 in United Kingdom under the leadership of Pastor Adeusi.
According to him, the Church was inaugurated in a rented community hall called Fenwick Hall at Clapham North, London with over 300 people in attendance including people from other assemblies.
He noted that the Church was led by the two Elder Eniwunmide, and Elder Olagunju for a short period of time and they also formed the control council for the smooth running of the church.
Pastor Olaniyi further explained that: "the first Church Council was formed in June 1988, comprising of the following members: Elder Olagunju senior, Mr Olufemi Johnson, Mr Felix Taiwo, Doctor Ige, Mr Olufemi Faponle, Mr Soga, Mr Tam Williams, Mr Ogunbanwo and Mr Aruleba. The church was blessed with the family of Mr and Mrs Taiwo who voluntarily allowed the keeping of the church instruments in their house because they lived directly behind the Fenwick Hall, and their house was also used for meetings and other church official purposes."
"The First Pastor of the church was inducted in July 1988 in person of Pastor Ilori. Since then, the following ministers have worked tirelessly and the congregation cannot forget their great service to God and to the church in general. These were; Pastor Ilori, Pastor Adeyanju, Pastor Ayani, Pastor Olatokun and Pastor Tukasi, Pastor Thomas. They had all led this great Church at one point or the other as their tremendous service have helped this assembly to become what it is today. The whole assembly are forever grateful for their wonderful contributions and service to God."
"In 1992, Five years after inception, the church membership had grown tremendously, the then Pastor Adeyanju co-opted Elder Kayode and Elder Idowu of blessed memory into the church council. While in search of a property for the church, in 1993 the then Brother Apantaku, spotted a building at the present address and it was bought. Pastor Adeyanju later left and Pastor Ayani took over as the head of the of the church."
"The church moved into the (present building) in 1993 under the leadership of Pastor Adeyanju and later Evangelist Ayani with Pastor Shasanmi as the District Superintendent in Seven Sisters. Due to the growth of the church, much work needed to be done in the church council, in 1995, Pastor Onakoya and Pastor Oyedele were co-opted. Other members of the Church Council were also appointed Elders."
"The church had come through various challenges which are synonymous in church establishment and it’s not different from what other assemblies are facing today, but to God be the glory who has been the solid rock and had established his church, he did not allow any wave of storm among the members both financially or physically to pull down his church, Halleluyah!"
"The Church was led by Pastor Dr Emmanuel Tukasi for several years and later Pastor Rufus Thomas. The tenure of Pastor Thomas saw the appointment and ordination of many members of the Church. The following elevated as Pastors; Evang. Faponmile, Prince Adeleye and Evang. Okunrinkoya. While the following members were appointed as Lady Evangelist; Mrs Adeleye, Mrs Onakoya, Mrs Johnson, Mrs Akinlade and late Mrs kayode. New Elders and Deaconesses were also appointed. New programmes were introduced into the church activities which includes; Prevailing prayer under the leadership of Pastor Okunrinkoya which has powerfully assisted the church and the members tremendously in the area of prayers and spiritual awareness."
"Pastor Rufus Thomas lead the church for some time before I took over as the senior Pastor and Zonal Superintendent in 2015. I was transferred from Birmingham to lead the Church and since then, the Church has witness tremendous changes and improvements in its administration and activities. So many stringent and important programmes were introduced to the Church which the members are still enjoying to date."
