Prophet Samuel K. Abiara |
Former General Evangelist of the Christ Apostolic Church, Worldwide, Prophet Samuel K. Abiara, has called on the Federal Government to give incentives to local rice farmers in order to boost their production capacity.
The cleric said this in an interview with PUNCH NEWSPAPER.
He said the suicide rate had increased due to the poor economic situation and other issues, saying that was why the church organised a programme where he said God is ready to give solutions to myriad problems facing the people.
He said the Federal Government’s decision to close the border was a good one especially as it affected rice, poultry products and other products which would be produced locally.
He said, “The border closure, to me, is a good one because this will give us the opportunities to produce some crops locally. If we look at rice importation, they bring rice to us from other countries and this is negatively affecting our capacity to produce the same crop locally.
“But government should give our farmers incentives and everything they need to grow rice and process it. I believe we have the land and we have the people who can wean us from dependence on other countries for rice and other food items.”
The cleric also charged the Federal Government to give a serious consideration to the clamour for establishment of state police.
Prophet Abiara said establishment of state police would help in restoring peace and security to the nation, while stating that this would also create employment for many Nigerian youths.
