As Christmas is celebrated across the world by Christians today, the Superintendent of Christ Apostolic Church, Somolu-Olaleye DCC, Pastor J. O. Akinyomi has described Jesus as the light of the world, describing light as a necessity for direction, clarity and safety.
The cleric who stated this in his Christmas message titled "Jesus is the Light of the World" from the text John 8:12, highlighted that, "you can easily understand why the Bible often uses darkness as a symbol of evil, error, uncertainty, trouble, and death. These are the kinds of things that cause us to be fearful and confused."
"In contrast, the Bible uses light as a symbol of life, joy, truth and all that is good. It tells us that Jesus is the Light of the world. What a powerful and descriptive name for the Son of God?"
Pastor Akinyomi, while identifying the reasons for Light, described that "the world was plunged into spiritual darkness the instant that sin separated the first human being...people are in spiritual darkness until they receive a special revelation of the light of God," hence, Jesus became the Light of the world to give us God’s light – to reveal to us God’s love and His will for us.
The DCC Superintendent, pointed out that the Yuletide season should always be a reminder of the personality of Jesus Christ as the Light, who consequentially drives away darkness, reveals, serves as energy and is impartial.
According to the cleric, "Jesus being the Light, drives out darkness. Light is stronger than darkness. If Jesus is in your life, the power of evil around you and the dark experiences of life cannot put out His light. Light makes it possible for us to see things as they are. The only way we can know spiritual truth is with the spiritual light that comes from God."
He furthered that, "Jesus shows us what God is like and how He will meet our needs. In Jesus, we see God’s love for us, His patience with us, His provision for our salvation. Light is radiant energy. Light has great effect on life and health. Light is for everybody, everywhere. The light of Jesus shines for all the world, on both good and bad."
The cleric, who stated that it is dangerous to reject and refuse the light of Christ, declared that accepting Jesus is having light as one's possession.
While concluding his Christmas goodwill message, Pastor Akinyomi said that, "welcome Him into every area of your life now. Let His bright presence drive all darkness away. Follow His light and share it with those around you. Turn your life over to Him so He can fill it with His light."
