In its quest to further enlarge God's kingdom through robust social media presence, Christ Apostolic Church, Agbara District, Agbara, Lagos, on Saturday March 19, 2022 organised a Media Workshop for media practitioners under the district.
The workshop which was organised to further cause a revival for Christ in the social media sphere held at the district headquarters.
Participants went through intensive training on how to use Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, TikTok, Blogger and others professionally for the proclamation of the gospel.
The Facilitator of the programme, who is also the Editor of CAC News, Mr. Oluwagbenga Bankole, ministered on the theme "Growing the Church through the Media: the Social Media Style."
Taking his text from John chapter 9 verse 4, Mr. Bankole told the participants that this is the most important aspect of their lives; urging them to use wholeheartedly to dominate the social media for Christ.
He noted that over one billion people log in to Facebook each day; Instagram boasts of more than 500 million users each month, and Twitter has 328 million monthly active users according to statista.com.
According to the News/Content Editor, social media allow churches to connect with their members, as well as people who may not attend church; noting that Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, TikTok and Blogger offer a free, easy way to promote church events and strengthen your community outside of Sunday services.
"Since the birth of the church, one of the major desires of God is that the church should grow in all ramifications just to glorify His name. The early Apostles followed the blueprint given to them by Jesus for church growth which was responsible for the rapid growth of the early church. The major tools used to grow the early church were evangelism, discipleship, Word of God, fervent Prayers, love etc. These tools are still relevant till now for church growth. Adopting the tools with the help of the social media (being handled by capable hands) would not only give the church rapid growth, but also build an enviable image for the church, all to the glory of Christ," he stated.
While speaking on how to set up a church media department or team, the former Energy Editor of Nigerian NewsDirect Newspaper said; "a church media department can begin with a single person— someone who is gifted with organizational abilities and familiar with technology. He doesn’t have to be a pastor or a full-time staff member. He doesn’t need to be a media guru with a high-tech background. He simply needs to be someone who volunteers for the position, is recognized by the church leadership, and who is assigned the task of bringing order to the media of the church."
He further said such interested individual or churches should take the following four steps in putting together a church media department; they are, "figure out what you have, figure out what you want, figure out who you need and figure out how to continue."
On the personnel in church media department, Mr. Bankole said the media department should have a Content Creator/Social Influencer, photographer, videographer, graphic designer, live streamer and Head of Department.
He stated that the Content Creator must be consistent in writing, understand his or her audience, get his or her own voice, share content from other creators that inspire, understand Key Performance Indicator/Social Media Metrics and start networking.
The District Superintendent of CAC Agbara District, Pastor Isaac Akin Adetutu thanked God for the success of the training.
He also appreciated the DCC Superintendent of CAC Agbara DCC, Pastor Joseph Omolola for his support towards the success of the training. The Cleric further appreciated the Facilitator for honouring the invitation and for the impactful training.
Pastor Adetutu urged the participants to put everything they have learnt in action when they get to their various assemblies.
The workshop ended with a photography session.
