The Regional Superintendent, Christ Apostolic Church,Medaiyese Region,Pastor Gabriel Aboderin has advised believers and choirs to be mindful of spiritual worship that inspire people to worship God.
Pastor Aboderin gave the advice at CAC Durumi, Abuja in a sermon titled “the Power of Music in Christian Worship” with text taken from PSALM 89:1-9, and EPHESIANS 5:17-20.
He also called on church choirs to take the responsibility of leading the church into inspiring worship with all the responsibilities it demand.
He said that music played an important role in the life of a believer, describing it as one of the greatest vehicles that can convey us to the presence of the heavenly Father.
“Religion is known for music. Each religion has music that is peculiar to it. Even traditional worshipers have different types of songs for their deities.
“It is not uncommon to hear different songs during different festivals. This shows that music has a strong role to play in our worship of God.
“All followers of Christ must familiarize themselves with certain musical components in order to be able to sing Christian music in the way that is acceptable to God. One of them is hymn.
“The church hymnal collection is a total package which contains songs of salvation, inspiration, encouragement and assurance that a Christian needs to serve the Lord,” he said.
He added that the psalms constitute another aspect of Christian music, noting that all psalms were written as songs, which were to serve as encouragement to believers.
Enumerating the power of Music, Pastor Aboderin said that “music inspires believers to worship God."
He said that when believers sing Christian music, they are inspired to worship God the way He should be worshiped.
“I am confident that if every member of the church will be a part of the heavenly choir while on earth, God will not be far away in our worship.
“Unfortunately, certain songs do not inspire people to worship the Lord because they are not appropriately sung.
“The church choir is responsible for the leading the church in the worship of God; this responsibility must be taken with all the seriousness it demands.
“We serve a mighty God and anything we should employ in His worship must be spiritual enough to inspire people to worship Him.
“So many patterns of the world have crept into the church, but we must not follow the way of the world. Some songs are not supposed to be rendered in the worship of God.
“The fact that some people do some forms of exercise elsewhere does not mean it will fit into the church. We must avoid dancing to the tune of the world,” he said.
He added that music also edifies, heals, assures believers of God faithful, as well as takes believers to the presence of God.
“singing to God opens the gate that leads to His presence. David in Psalms 100:4 encourages us “Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts wit” praise.”
Pastor Aboderin also described music as a battle axe that believers could use to prosecute the battles of their lives.
“The Bible contains the record of a battle that was fought using the choir.
“When you are facing so much trials that you cannot even mutter a word of prayer, why not sing hymns and spiritual songs?
“God demands total worship from us individually and as a church. We must learn to worship Him without reservations,” he charged the congregation.
