It was a memorable evening of excellent sacred music performance at Christ Apostolic Church, Oke-Ibukun, Yaba Districts’ Coordinating Council (DCC) headquarters, Alagomeji, Yaba Lagos as the choir celebrated its 84th anniversary with a vibrant musical concert held on Sunday evening, 13th October, 2024 drawing a capacity crowd of church members, dignitaries, and music enthusiasts.
Themed 'New Glory', the event showcased the choir's dedication to spiritual excellence and musical artistry, reaffirming its affiliation with the Royal School of Church Music (RSCM).
The programme commenced with a captivating mini concert featuring a semi-choir performing David Archuleta’s uplifting song, "Glorious", followed by a heartfelt duet of "S'alabo Mi" by Bidemi Oyesanya. These performances set an inspiring tone for the evening ahead.
The concert proper highlighted a series of powerful musical renditions by the main choir, including "Nye Chukwu Ekele", the traditional "Chant of Psalm 8" by Henry Lawes in B-flat, and "Righteousness Exalts a Nation" by Seun Owoaje. Other notable pieces included "Adom Noa" by James Varick Armaah and "Omi Iye," with lyrics and music composed by the General Overseer of Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministry, Dr. D.K. Olukoya, and expertly arranged by Dr. Ayo Oluranti.
An electrifying moment of the evening was the ceremonial passing of the baton from the outgone choirmaster, Elder S.K.O. Annan, to the new choirmaster, Elder Sesan Taiwo. This was conducted by the Superintendent, Yaba DCC, Pastor S.E.A. Oludare.
Elder Annan has faithfully served as the choir master for an impressive 45 years, during which he has guided the choir to numerous achievements. The Director of Administration for CAC Nigeria & Overseas read a citation in honor of Elder Annan's contributions, while Elder Bidemi Oyesanya, the Director of Music, presented the citation to the new choirmaster.
The Superintendent of CAC New Covenant District, Lagos, Pastor Abraham Ekebafe delivered a sermon based on Exodus 40:16-35, centered on the theme 'A New Glory'.
He emphasized that God is not only glorious but the Father of Glory, referencing Ephesians 1:17. He noted that experiencing God's glory requires following the pattern set by Jesus Christ, paralleling Moses's adherence to God's instructions when constructing the tabernacle.
In his thanksgiving address, the new choirmaster, Elder Sesan Taiwo expressed gratitude to all guests, family, friends, and attendees, with special thanks to Dr. Olukoya for his unwavering support and for providing musical instruments for the concert.
