Don't just pray, research: Pastor Dada harps on spiritual mapping for breakthrough

At the just concluded 2025 Odo Owa Annual Revival, Babalola Regional Superintendent, Pastor Gabriel Segun Dada, emphasized the need for believers to move beyond prayers and dig deeper into the root causes of their problems, in order to experience total breakthrough.

Speaking on the topic “Spiritual Mapping for Breakthrough” during one of the lecture sessions on Friday, Pastor Dada noted that every problem people go through is traceable to a source hence the need to find out the source in order to proffer the right solution to it.

According to Pastor Dada, spiritual mapping involves researching, discerning, and understanding the activities of Satan that hinder believers from experiencing breakthroughs.

He emphasized the need to know the identities, strategies, and methods employed by spiritual darkness to afflict believers.

“You need to know the identities, the strategies, and methods you can employ, towards countering the activities of darkness in your life. The activities of witches are known all over, but how then do you know that what you are going through is the work of the witches?” He asked.

“Then, after you have researched and found out, you need to know how you can get out of it, bind, lose, and then make sure they do not penetrate or come back again. If you can’t do a lot of work on that, you might find out that the problem will persist every time or resurface every time you come to a prayer meeting like this.” He explained.

Using the analogy of an X-ray in a hospital to explain the concept of spiritual mapping, he said,

“A lot of us know X-ray in a hospital; as an X-ray is to a physician, so is spiritual mapping to an intercessor (a Christian). The Holy Spirit will, a lot of times, reveal a family pattern of problem that you are going through.”

Pastor Dada shared a personal testimony of how God helped a Christian brother, who was a giant in prayer, to overcome a long-standing problem.

Through research and spiritual mapping, they discovered that the problem was caused by a curse placed by a slave who was killed by the brother's ancestors over 200 years before that time.

He stressed that believers need to take proactive steps to engage in spiritual mapping of their problems, as it gives effectiveness to their prayers and is crucial to finding solutions.

“You cannot just be on the mountain here shouting, 'God, deliver me'; you need to research to find out the cause of the problem. In some families, lineages, or generations, they have spilled innocent blood, and these are the causes of problems in those places, and if these causes are known, the solution is not far-fetched.” He encouraged.

Citing Ephesians 6:12 which speaks about the importance of spiritual warfare against principalities and powers, Pastor Dada identified and explained three levels of spiritual warfare.

“Though spiritual mapping is not in the Bible, however, we are made to understand the biblical notion of spiritual mapping from the scripture in Ephesians 6:12.” He noted.

“When we look at Ephesians 6 from verse 12, we are called to war against principalities, powers, rulers, and darkness, and they can be divided into three – the first is ground-level warfare involving casting out demons through prophetic words. God has given ministers in CAC grace to do these works. The second level is the occultic level of warfare – an organized organization, spiritual wickedness, and the most dangerous because of the level they have more powers operating, then we have the strategic level, this deal with territorial spirits, rulers of darkness, principalities, larger demons and so many; this category can be operating in a town.” He explained.

Pastor Dada stressed further the importance of identifying the source of a problem, illustrating his point with the biblical account of Elijah and Elisha's ministry in Jericho.

“When Elijah was in Jericho, Elisha was with him, but Elijah’s ministry could not heal the land because it was a territorial issue, but when Elisha got there, he did not suggest fasting or other activity, he asked for a bowl of salt. There is always a source of a particular problem, when you don’t touch the source, the problem will persist.” He said.

He explained that Elisha's approach was effective because he identified and addressed the root cause of the issue.

“On getting to Jericho, Elisha got to the source of the problem and was able to proffer solution to it easily. He put salt in the source and pronounced sweetness to it. When you know the cause and the source, you will be able to find solution easily.” He added.

He also warned against ignoring the consequences of violating God's laws and taboos, referencing God’s instruction to the Israelites in Leviticus 18.

Sharing a personal testimony of how he helped a brother who was experiencing a health issue that he claimed was a spiritual attack, Pastor Dada added that ignorance can be deadly and that believers must take responsibility for understanding the root causes of their problems before making conclusions.

He then encouraged believers to research and investigate the history and culture of their families and communities to understand the root causes of their problems.

“It is only in Christ Jesus you can find solution, if you take out Jesus, there is no way out.” He concluded.
